Manhattan, officially knows as New York County came in first in the analysis by the IRS from 2013 return data by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) with an average income of $96,941.
Second was Falls Church, VA with an average income of $92,94 not surprising as this is a bastion of politicians, top government officials, army top brass, defense contractors.
The third county with $91,188 average income is Fairfield County, CT home to Connecticut’s four biggest cities Bridgeport, Stamford, Norwalk and Danbury.
Coming in at eighth is New Jersey’s Somerset County with $82,099 average income. This income growth is aided by the development of the county's very strong pharmaceutical and technology presence and more recently, there has been an steady stream of New York City commuters who use New Jersey Transit's Raritan Valley Line and Gladstone Branch or use Interstate 78.
Morris County came ranked at number nine, with an average income of $81,555. Morris County is home to 33 Fortune 500 companies that have their headquarters based there.
